5 year business anniversary! 🎉 Today marks fiv 5 year business anniversary! 🎉

Today marks five years since I wrote my first paid article for my first ever freelance writing client. 😱

A part of me can’t believe it’s already been five years and the other part is like, how has it only been five years?! It feels like a lifetime!

So much has happened since I took that fateful trip to Thailand, started learning about freelance writing and decided to give it a try myself. 😉

I’ve made a lot of mistakes and learnt so many lessons but I’m so glad I went through every peak and trough because it brought me to where I am today.

I’m nowhere near where I want to be professionally (I think the pandemic set back most small businesses) but I still count my blessings every day at how far I’ve come. 📈

I’ve also never been so busy in my life and had such a rollercoaster ride of a job but I wouldn’t change a single thing.

(Well, perhaps the whole “feast and famine” thing that comes with being a freelancer! 😅)

I get to wake up every morning excited about who I’m working with or what I’m working on next. I’m always writing about different topics so I’m constantly learning about the world around me and it’s fascinating.

I’m also fortunate to work with different businesses around the globe. There’s nothing I enjoy more than supporting new brands and helping them to get to where they want to be through the power of the written word.

Ever since I was little, I used to love to write. I would journal most days as a teenager and even had teachers telling me that I was born to write and could make a successful career from writing.

Well, look at me now, guys. (You were right!) 😜

I guess the purpose of this post is to ask you all to never give up on your dreams.

There were plenty of times that I could have thrown the towel in and didn’t - something inside me just knew that I could make it work for me.

My business is not perfect, by any means, and I still struggle to get the work-life balance right most days.

(Hubby is constantly telling me off for answering emails on a night, ha!) 😳

But it’s a battle I want to keep undertaking.

Happy 5th birthday, Dream Scribe. Let’s keep levelling up! 👊🏻

Newsflash: the digital marketing landscape is fast Newsflash: the digital marketing landscape is fast-paced. 🏃‍♀️

Given the rapid rate that technology is evolving, the types of content that consumers are demanding tend to change as much as the weather. ☔️

As an online business owner, you have to be able to keep up. 🥵

Otherwise, you’ll get left behind — and it’ll be your competitors that are reaping the rewards. 💰

(We don’t want that, right?) ❌

Whether your goal is to create brand awareness via social media or increase your number of website click-throughs from Google, there are a few things you should know before you kickstart your content planning for the year ahead. 📝

Consider following these 2022 content marketing trends to become the brand to watch. 👀

1. Simplicity

Avoid overwhelming online consumers by delivering content with one key message in a clear, direct way. ✅

2. Authenticity

The days of the highlight reel are over. Consumers want to see real people with real problems in real situations that they can relate and engage with. ✅

3. Video

Video marketing is growing exponentially because video content is more personal. It allows your ideal audience to get to know you, like you and trust you. ✅

4. Audio

Podcasting and streaming audio is projected to grow by 17.8% and become more popular in the business world. ✅

5. Quality > quantity

Your fans and followers aren’t going to notice if you post less one week. However, they are going to notice if the quality of your content suddenly slips. ✅

6. Repurposing

Your target audience is unlikely to be following you on every platform or remember everything you post. Avoid creator burnout by repurposing one piece of content for different online channels. ✅

7. Voice search optimisation

Voice search is on the rise. Refine the keywords for your blog posts and web copy by considering the phrase that you may ask Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. ✅

8. An empathetic approach

Twenty-first-century consumers are smart and know when they’re being sold to. They want to feel like you care. Taking a “customer-led” approach is going to be a key focus for businesses in 2022. ✅

Read more about this topic by heading to my Stories for my blog post link! 🤗
Stop burnout in its tracks in 2022. ❌ Happy New Stop burnout in its tracks in 2022. ❌

Happy New Year, business besties!

I hope you’re all well and had an amazing holiday. ✨

Seen as though this is the first week back to work for many people (me included), there’s a whole lot of talk going around about new year’s goals and resolutions.

Well, I’ve decided that one of my biggest new year’s goals is to stop burning out. 👍🏻

You know what, burnout is a funny old thing. 🤔

I didn’t even realise how burned out I was before Christmas until I had a break — not just in my personal life but in my professional life too.

It’s only when I look back now that I realise how much I wasn’t myself towards the end of last year.

Here are some of the key signs that I was burned out.

1. Regular patterns of negative thinking

I was struggling to find positivity in the every day. Instead of believing that everything would work out, I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. 💡

These negative thought patterns would spiral to the point where I was feeling stressed out and overwhelmed 90% of the time.

2. Seeing everything as a chore

I was so burned out with how fast-paced my life was that I lost enjoyment in the things I usually love to do. 🥺

Everything felt like a chore to the point where I couldn’t enjoy anything — and how sad is that? Life is meant to be enjoyed.

3. Feeling like there’s no time

I was constantly going from one thing to the next, whether it was an appointment, piece of work or catchup with a loved one.

I was flying on the seat of my pants and not taking any time for myself, which is so important. If you can’t give to yourself, you can’t give to anything else. 🤙🏻

4. Getting overwhelmed easily

I struggled to answer emails and messages. Heck, sometimes I even struggled to go in and read them.

Even the smallest things felt overwhelming and whenever something would go wrong, it felt like the end of the world. 🌎

5. Not being able to relax

During the pockets of time that I did have to try and relax, I felt like I wasn’t able to.

In fact, I felt guilty if I was trying to relax when there was a ton of stuff on my to-do list. 📝

[CONTINUED IN COMMENTS]
Merry Christmas to me, love me. ❤️ Four and a Merry Christmas to me, love me. ❤️

Four and a half years ago I started a business not knowing if it was going to be a success.

Because I had a fear of failing, I worked all day every day on my MacBook Air laptop, not daring to invest in a desktop computer just in case everything went belly up and I had to go back out there and get a “proper” job. 🤷🏼‍♀️

What use would I have for a desktop then? It would have been a total waste of money.

They say that you can’t get a good sense of whether a business is going to survive (and thrive) until its fifth year. 📈

Well, this is my fifth year of business.

Despite times being tough in the pandemic and having some unbearably slow months, I’ve still managed to make more money this year than I’ve ever made in a year before.

In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret… I’ve doubled my monthly income from my previous corporate job. 💰

And now I’ve decided that enough is enough.

It’s time to ditch the laptop and say hello to a desktop computer, so I can say goodbye to:

- The idea that my business will fail
- The excuse that it’s too much money (it’s an investment that I won’t have to pay taxes on)
- Thinking that I don’t deserve it after how hard I’ve worked
- Constant neck and back ache 😅

So although I’m the worst person in the world at bigging myself up (like, literally, the worst), I can’t deny that I’m proud of myself right now.

And I look forward to learning and evolving more with my business in 2022 and beyond! 🎉

I’m signing off of this IG account now until the new year so I just want to say thank you very much for your support in 2021.

It means the world to me. 🌍

I also want to remind you to celebrate your wins because it’s easy to hone in on the negative or the fact that you’re not exactly where you want to be right now. I get it.

That said, let’s spin things around for a second…

Look how far you’ve come!

Past you would be amazed at what present you is achieving! 😱

You’re amazing, bestie!

And don’t you ever forget it.

Have a bloody lovely holiday season. 🎁

…BUT YOU STILL NEED A BREAK! 💁🏼‍♀️ …BUT YOU STILL NEED A BREAK! 💁🏼‍♀️

Nobody can keep on working forever.

Even if you’re fortunate enough to have a job that you love, it’s called “work” for a reason, people! 😅

Question: how many of my business besties are taking time off around the holidays this year?

It wasn’t until the third year of running my biz that I took more than Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day off. 🤷🏼‍♀️

(And it was only because I was eloping to get married in Key West this time last year!)

This year, I’ve vowed to take at least one week off from creating client content. 💪🏻

The truth is, none of us can keep going at a million miles per hour.

We need time to rest, relax and regroup for the months that lie ahead. 🧖‍♀️

Throw a pandemic into a mix and life is especially challenging right now so it’s even more important to take care of ourselves.

If you’re in the beginning stages of setting up a business, I totally get the urge to keep hustling to get it off the ground. 🏃‍♀️

However, keep in mind that it’s not going anywhere.

If you did want to take a much-needed break, it will be waiting for you when you decide to resume work. ⏯

(And I highly recommend doing this for your mental health!)

Either way, I hope that you manage to enjoy the holiday season, whatever you’re doing. 🎁

I’m in your corner always!

K ❤️

There’s nothing better than heading into a new y There’s nothing better than heading into a new year organised… 🤓

Here are 10 of the items on my end-of-year to-do list for my freelance writing business. 📝

Personally, I like to tie up any loose ends so I can take my Christmas break without having to worry about a project that isn’t finished or a client who I need to get back to. 😱

Not having anything hanging over my head also helps me to fully relax and regroup so I can mentally prepare for what January may bring! 😴

The most important item on my to-do list, though, is to have fun! 🎉

After all, it’s such a wonderful time of year and life is hard right now. 🦠

We deserve to cut ourselves some slack! 👊🏻

New online business owners, listen up. 🔊 Picki New online business owners, listen up. 🔊

Picking your brand colours is one of the most important decisions that you’ll make. 🌈

After all, your visual branding is the first thing that your target audience will come across, whether this is on your website or social media channels. 💻

As well as communicating your business values, your colour palette should express your brand’s personality and evoke an emotional response. 😅

As such, failing to make a wise selection can have a detrimental effect on how your brand is perceived. 🥺

I know, not ideal — right? ❌

Not to worry though — I’ve written a blog post that goes into detail about how to pick your brand colours as a new business to make a positive, long-lasting impact on your ideal customer or client. ✅

Website owners, are your blog posts ASA-compliant? Website owners, are your blog posts ASA-compliant? 🚨

As the UK's independent regulator of advertising across all media, the purpose of the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) is to "make every UK ad a responsible ad" and provide full transparency to consumers. ✅

As such, you need to ensure that you declare your sponsored blog and social media posts and affiliate links. 📢

Otherwise, you could risk having these posts removed. ❌

And that's not cool when you've spent a lot of time creating the perfect post, and even gained monetary compensation which you will then have to give back. 😩

Not to worry - here's a handy little carousel that tells you how you can make sure your blog meets ASA guidelines. ➡️

I'll also pop a link in my Story to the ASA website where it covers what blog owners need to do to become compliant. 👍🏻

I've got your back! 🤗
